International Marketplace
Another popular tourist destination in Waikiki is the International Marketplace. Catering to the island’s visitors since 1956, the open-air shopping mall features shops that sell gold, pearls, diamonds, wood carvings, kites, surf equipment, t-shirts, and much more. The International Marketplace also has an international food court and offers free live entertainment every Friday and Saturday evenings. The famous shopping area is easy to spot since it has a 100-year-old Banyan tree growing in the middle of the Mall.
Waikiki Aquarium
Those who enjoy marine life need to visit the Waikiki Aquarium, the third oldest aquarium in the United States. Constructed on a living reef on Waikiki’s coastline, the aquarium is home to over 3,000 organisms and 500 species of marine life. Each year, over 350,000 people visit the aquarium, many being school aged children. Some of the most popular sea creatures on display are zebra sharks, monk seals, sea jellies, and various types of octopi.
